The Lubbock Board of Health met Friday to discuss gun violence and possible solutions to prevent future incidents from happening.
This comes just days after a five-year-old boy was killed by an accidental discharge of the firearm that his dad was cleaning.
Dr. Brian Carr, a psychologist who sits on the Board of Health, says that he wants to promote gun safety education and make it easier to have a discussion about responsible gun ownership.
"We just want to develop educational programs because we want to bring it home to the household in this community about what they can do to properly store and handle firearms," Carr said.
He also said that he hopes that Lubbock can lead the way for the nation in gun safety education.
