Police: Two men accused of 'quick-change scam' arrested

Posted:

Lubbock police arrested two men Saturday accused of a "quick-change scam" theft at Payless Shoes near Quaker and the South Loop.

Patrol officers responding to the call report the two suspects made a small purchase and asked the cashier to make change for larger bills. The suspects reportedly confused the cashier and left the store with more money than they were owed, according to police.

The pair was located and arrested near South Avenue Q and I-27, police say, and a search of the vehicle revealed evidence from the theft.

Rodney James Ladd, 46, and Jacque Pillette, 48, were arrested and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Facility, charged with theft and traffic violations.

Police say the investigation is on-going and detectives are looking into the possibility that these are the same suspects involved multiple similar theft scams around the City of Lubbock.
