State and local lawmakers present for Parkway Drive reconstruction groundbreaking

Posted:

Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, Lubbock Senator Charles Perry, and Lubbock-area representatives John Frullo and Dustin Burrows helped an east Lubbock neighborhood celebrate the groundbreaking of the Parkway Drive Reconstruction Project.

The project, spearheaded by the AD-HOC (Adult Division Helping Our Children) Committee, will redesign a half mile stretch of Parkway Drive from MLK to Cherry Avenue.

The project cost is $6.4 million.

"We've had a lot of accidents here and people have been killed in those accidents," said Commissioner Bubba Sedeño. "This is a dangerous intersection out here, so we are extremely fortunate that the Lieutenant Governor, TxDOT and our senator, representative delegation to help us secure that money for the reconstruction of Parkway Drive here."

Frontage roads will be turned into cul-de-sacs to limit intersections and make the remaining ones safer. Sidewalks will also be added.

No reconstruction schedule has been set.
