Former state representative Jim Landtroop is looking at returning to the legislature. The fifth-generation Texan, was a guest on the News Wednesday night, and said that "conservative values are worth fighting for." Landtroop is vying for the 84th House District seat.
Landtroop, 48, expresses how he plans to address public education.
"I don't have the silver bullet to fix public education," he said. "I do know that we need to bring everybody to the table. We need to bring small schools, big schools, poor schools, rich schools, we need to bring administrators, teachers, counselors, I mean everybody has to come to the table. If we can do that hopefully we can get something with a little guidance from the court going to help us in the future."
Landtroop comments on Attorney General Ken Paxton's legal issues:
"I go off the premise, you are innocent until proven guilty and we need to extend that to him as well. As long as he can do his job in the mean time, then I think we should let him do that."
Landtroop concluded with his plans to put conservative interest above the Austin lobby.
"Don't let the negative ads and mud-slinging distract you from what is truly important in this election and that is our voting records," he said. "There is a reason that Rice University ranked me the fourth most conservative republican in the Texas house. We live in one of the most conservative districts in this state and we should have one of the most conservative republicans representing us."
