Area high school students getting hands-on and high tech during the 18th Annual AT&T Hacemos National High Technology Day. Fifty Hispanic and Latino students from schools around Lubbock experienced a virtual simulation of the dangers of texting and driving and learning how to code.
The goal is to encourage students to seek out careers in the technology field.
"Technology is all around us and it's important that our students are not just wanting a phone but thinking about what kind of apps can they build to play on their phones," said workforce manager Margie Olivarez. "So taking it to the next level."
"It gives them an eye opener as far as finding out exactly if they're going to be interested in the program," team manager Enrique Carrasco said. "It gives them the opportunity to seek what opportunities are available for the technology world."
National Technology Day is in 35 locations including Mexico.
The resource group aims to build strong communities by demonstrating the importance of education and positive role models to achieve success.
