Former Congressman Larry Combest was elected to the District 19 House seat ten times. He represented the region for nearly 20 years before leaving office in 2003.
He was the first Republican and only third person to hold the office since the district was created in 1935.
Combest says there are similarities between his own first election and the current race to replace Randy Neugebauer, who has held the seat for 12 years.
"There were nine of us running when I ran first in '83 for the '84 election." Combest said with the crowded race now, "you'll usually have a lot of people that will come out because they realize that's going to be the only shot they have at it for a period of time."
No Democrats are running for the District 19 seat.
