Construction begins on N. University project

Posted:

Construction begins Tuesday on phase two of the North University Avenue project.

The work extends from Marsha Sharp to Amherst Street on University.

The enhancement project will include new street lighting, as well as access and sidewalk improvements. Street paving renovations are not included in the project.

"It's going to look very similar to what was done to 34th street as far as lighting, sidewalks, benches, that sort of thing," said District 1 Councilman Victor Hernandez. "We're hoping that the neighborhoods be patient with us and we're also hoping the businesses be patient with us, it's just going to be of benefit to everybody."

Hernandez says in total, the project should take around four months to complete. Phase three will begin in 2017 and extend from Amherst to Clovis Highway.
