LUBBOCK, Texas -
A date has been tentatively set for Jose Escarcega's trial.
He is accused of aggravated assault against a peace officer.
In July 2015, Cpl. Ryan Durrett attempted to arrest Escarcega, who was suspected of stealing a vehicle when Escarcega reportedly took control of the officer's patrol vehicle.
Police report Durrett was hanging onto the vehicle as it accelerated toward and hit a utility pole. The officer was seriously injured.
Escarcega fired his first attorney in February days before his first trial date.
The case is now set for trial on August 24, 2016.
