The U.S. Supreme Court is getting involved in the fight over voter IDs.
In anticipation of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals hearing Texas' voter ID law, the Supreme Court has ordered the law to remain in effect.
FOX34 legal analyst Curtis Parrish says although the Court stepped in, they have not made a ruling on the case.
"It leaves everything in place, just the way it is through the next election, which will be May the 24th, and that's the run-off election that we're going to have in the state," he said. "Second, it told the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, you have until July 20th to settle this issue. Now once that's settled, of course either party can appeal it up to the Supreme Court. So the Supreme court basically let the door remain open that they would be willing to hear this case after July 20th."
The order comes after civil rights groups filed a petition to suspend the questionable law while the legality is determined.
