LUBBOCK, Texas -

Republican Wayne Christian made a visit Lubbock on his campaign trail before the May 24 primary runoff election.

Christian, a former state representative now running for Railroad Commissioner. The Railroad Commission is responsible for regulating oil, coal, gas and natural resources.

He says the industry is standing on one leg and with Sunset happening this upcoming legislative session, it's crucial the industry get back on its feet.

"Sunset means they open up the Railroad Commission, all the permitting processes, all the bonding processes all of the implementation of every item is going to be on the table for legislators and enemies of our oil and gas and coal industry to have their way in the town of Austin, Texas this January coming session, Christian said. "That's why they've asked me with the experience to fight that battle."

David Porter, the current commissioner is not seeking re-election. Christian is in a run off with fellow Republican Gary Gates.
