LUBBOCK, Texas -
Court of Criminal Appeals Place 2 candidate Republican Ray Wheless made a visit to Lubbock Wednesday.
Wheless, a judge for 15 years, is currently a district judge in Collin County.
He works with criminal, civil and family cases and said he believes his well-rounded background will be an asset to the position.
"It's the judges job not to be a judicial activists," Wheless said. "Judges shouldn't legislate from the bench and they shouldn't impose their own views on cases, and so if the jury decides in a criminal case that someone should go to prison, a judge shouldn't interfere with that. I think the judges need to follow what the law is, they need to follow and respect the jury decisions and I will do that if I'm elected to this court."
Wheless is in a runoff race against fellow Republican Mary Lou Keel.
