LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock law enforcement officers took part in a memorial to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Police, sheriff deputies, and DPS troopers acknowledged their fellow colleagues Friday with a 21-gun salute and moment of silence outside the Lubbock County Courthouse.

Sheriff Kelly Rowe said it's important that no one forget about the sacrifice these individuals have made.

"Always being ready, and always remembering is what make us better. It is what makes us sharp, and understanding the real dangers that do exisit in this job," said LPD Chief Greg Stevens.

Jina Fowler, the wife of Sgt. K.D. Fowler, who was killed in the line of duty in 1992 said, "You know you always hear that time heals old wounds. Time doesn't heal. You have to get a new life, and learn to live with it."
