A fire destroyed the announcer's booth at a local go kart track late Monday morning.
West Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tim Smith said the wind made conditions tough for the firefighters at the Sleepy Hollow Raceway in west Lubbock.
"We had some spot fires as a result," Smith said. "It's just blowing embers and it's creating fires out in front of the structure fire. So we can contain it to the structure, but with this wind if a grass fire breaks out, we are in deep weeds in a hurry."
Smith said the building was destroyed, but there were no injuries.
He said the cause is under investigation.
