Showers and storms likely this weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas -

THIS MORNING: It's mild and mostly clear across the South Plains, temperature in the 50s and lower 60s. Humidity has been slowly returning, with some pretty muggy air downstate.

TODAY: It'll warm to the mid 80s under a partly cloudy sky, wind SW-SE 10-18mph.

FOX daycast

By late this afternoon a few storms should develop across Northeast New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle. If these storms do get going they'll move southeast into our area. Around our area we have a chance for some storms this evening. If the storms get here they could have some large hail. We'll continue with a chance for storms into tonight.

WEEKEND: Showers and storms are likely tomorrow and Sunday. A front will be moving from the Panhandle into the South Plains in the morning, which will likely get showers and storms going. As the front pushes south of Lubbock there will be a NE wind here, which will dry the air some. Because of this...there may not be rain around in the afternoon. We can't completely remove the rain chance, but it does look like a break later tomorrow. But this doesn't last, some more showers and storms are possible tomorrow night into Sunday.

Through the weekend 1/2" to 1" rain totals will be possible. We definitely need the rain.

It'll be cool both days, likely topping out in the 60s in Lubbock. Tomorrow it'll be much warmer south of the front. And if the front stalls out between Lubbock and Midland it'll be mean a much warmer day from Hobbs to Lamesa in the 70s to low 80s.

NEXT WEEK: A dry line will develop on Monday and move east. Some computer runs have kept the dry line just east of Lubbock, which could lead to some storms over the Rolling Plains. But other computer models have the dry line east of our area, suggesting none of us will see storms. At this point we expect a dry and breezy to windy Monday.

Humidity will return to the area beginning Tuesday. A few storms will be possible each afternoon through the middle of the week.

7-day forecast

Have a great day and weekend. Look for the next forecast update here later this afternoon.
