After record-setting rainfall, more on the way

LUBBOCK -

Wasn't the thunder a great sound last night? Storms weren't too strong, so there wasn't the concern of a lot of damage. What was nice is the soaking downpours just kept on. The unofficial total at the Lubbock airport is up to 1.88". This breaks the record for this date, which was actually set last year at 1.24". This is also more precipitation at the Lubbock airport than we've had from January through yesterday. The first part of the year is usually fairly dry, but we've been below average. It's usually not tough to catch up in May or June with just a few storms.

For the rest of today there could be a few sprinkles, but we're probably done with rain for the daytime hours. Drier air is building in behind the front. It'll stay chilly. Just before Noon it's still in the low 50s in Lubbock and most of the South Plains. We might not get to 60 here in the city.

Another round of showers and storms could move in from the west this evening or tonight, with a continued chance for rain and storms into tomorrow. It won't rain continuously, but it is a pretty wide window for when rain is possible. At this point we expect another stronger line of storms either late tomorrow night or early Monday.

Christopher will have a full forecast update here later this afternoon. Enjoy the cool day.
