Look Around Lubbock: Summer Camp at the Science Spectrum

The Science Spectrum is hosting summer camps all summer long from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for children ages 4-12. To register for child for camp you can either call the Science Spectrum or enroll them in person. You can download the registration form for the Science Spectrum's website

Camp registration cost: 

4-6 year old's is $54 for members and $60 for non-members.

7-9 and 10-12 year old's is $99 for members and $108 for non-members.

Ages 4-6

May 31-June 2: It’s a Bug’s World

Snack provided!

Bugs may be small, but they have a huge role in how the natural world works! Campers will tour the Butterflies Alive! Exhibit, watch Flight of the Butterflies in the OMNI Theater, learn how to pollinate flowers like butterflies with a bit of creativity and engineering, and more. This camp is part of Creativity Garden- a nationwide project of the Association of Science-Technology Centers, generously supported by Disney.

June 7-9: Adventures in Space!

Snack provided!

Galaxies, stars, planets, and asteroids make space a fascinating place for exploration! Campers will learn about these things and more as they ask questions like a NASA scientist and train like astronauts. Get ready to build rockets, control the Science Spectrum’s Mars rover, and tour the solar system during this out-of-this-world camp!

June 14-16: SPLASH!

Snack provided!

We will make a splash as we learn about lakes and oceans, the water cycle, and how to engineer water filters. We will end the camp with wet-n-wild fun and games outside. Please bring swim suit, cover up, towel, and sunscreen for the last day of camp. This camp is part of Creativity Garden- a nationwide project of the Association of Science-Technology Centers, generously supported by Disney.

July 5-7: Planes, Trains, & Legos

Planes, trains, and automobiles are even more fun with Legos! Campers will learn a bit about transportation history, how motors work, and how planes can fly. Campers will put on their thinking caps as they invent new ways to travel.

July 12-14: Junior Scientist Lab

Snack provided!

Does your little one like to mix things up to see what happens? Do they like to take things apart to see how they work? Or do they like to observe the world around them? If you said yes to any of these, you have a future scientist on your hands! Campers will make things bubble with chemistry, tinker like engineers, and explore like a biologist.

July 19-21: Jungle Kids

It’s a jungle out there! Campers will learn about different wild areas of the world, check out some of the Science Spectrum animals, and discover amazing facts about exotic and mysterious creatures of the jungle! GO WILD!

July 26-28: Experimental Art

Snack provided!

Science and art collide in this colorful camp! Learn the science behind bubbles while painting, discover states of matter as we create a master piece, and experiment with mixing colors. Send campers in clothes they can get messy!

August 2-4: Go 4 Gold

Snack provided!

Get in the Olympic spirit this summer! Learn about the history of the Olympics, the different sports and games played, and the science behind them. We’ll even have an “Olympic Day” on Thursday where campers compete in physical challenges. Bring sunscreen for the last day.

Do you have what it takes to survive the wild? Campers will explore several National Parks in the OMNI’s National Parks Adventureand learn the basics of wilderness survival. Campers will figure out ways to get fresh water, learn how to build a shelter, and collect food from the wild.

June 14-16: Water Works

Water, water everywhere! Campers will explore the water cycle, learn where the water in our tap comes from, and engineer water filters that could be used where fresh water cannot be found. We will end the camp with wet-n-wild fun and games outside! Please bring a swim suit, cover up, towel, and sunscreen for the last day of camp. July 5-7: Bust that Myth

Can you stick phone books together using only friction? Would your stomach explode if you ate pop rocks and soda at the same time? Did pirates wear eye patches to help see in the dark? We will make hypotheses and test out these myths and more!

July 12-14: Inventor’s Workshop

Are you constantly coming up with new ideas? Do you like to build? Do you like to draw and design? Then you may be an innovative maker! Campers will use their imaginations in coming up with the next big idea. Using computers, campers will design something to be printed on a 3D printer!

Take a glimpse into the world of engineering and robotics. Build a full functioning robot out of Legos. Learn about designing, programming, and construction of robots. Then utilize these skills to design a robot of your own to overcome our Mars rover challenge.

August 2-4: Medal Science

Prepare yourself for the apocalypse! Campers will learn the basics of survival, discover “zombies” in nature, and transform into zombies with a bit of special effects makeup! Campers will also watch National Parks Adventure in the OMNI Theater. Please bring an extra set of old clothes to be zombified during the camp!
