THIS MORNING: Clouds are increasing, along with the northeast wind. Widespread showers and storms are just east of our area, from Wichita Falls to Abilene and now filling in to North Texas. There have also been a few showers from SE New Mexico moving toward the northern Permian Basin. Most of our area isn't getting the rain now.

TODAY: It'll be cloudy, breezy and cool. High in Lubbock near 66, quite a bit warmer over the southern South Plains. There is just a slight chance for a shower or storm. NE wind 15-25mph.
BETTER RAIN CHANCE: An upper-level storm system will provide better lift for showers and storms tonight through Thursday. The severe weather threat is fairly low. Like this past weekend, some soaking downpours are expected. Common totals of 1/4" to 1/2" are expected, but some locations could go above an inch. The rain chance will diminish through the day on Thursday.
WARMER WEATHER: Upper-level ridging will build across the region Friday, leading to a warmer and mostly sunny day. The ridge doesn't stick around here. A trough over the western United States will set us up in southwesterly flow this weekend...meaning the wind in the mid and upper levels is moving from southwest to northeast here. We'll watch for small impulses in this flow to trigger storms. We should have the moisture in place for a few storms Sunday, but can't rule out something similar Saturday and also early next week. This is your more typical May setup here.
Have a great day. Rudy will update this forecast here later today.
