Cool with more rain today, warmer this weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas -

SOAKING RAIN: Showers and storms early this morning brought some pretty good rain to the area. Much of Lubbock picked up at least 1/2", though it was less at the airport. This map shows rain the past 24 hours...this runs from 6:30 Tuesday to 6:30 this morning.

THIS MORNING: There are some showers over the southern South Plains, moving west to east. The heavy rain we saw is now moving into North Texas. There are storms moving into Houston...that batch produced flooding and some wind damage around San Antonio. There are also more showers and storms into New Mexico. Bottom line...it's a pretty active, wet pattern across the region.

TODAY: It'll be cloudy and cool, temperature in the 50s, wind NE-E 5-15mph. We'll see some rain around the area off-and-on through today. The rainfall rates will be lighter than what we saw early this morning. A few rumbles of thunder are possible, but for the most part this should be just rain.

Lubbock daycast

TONIGHT: Some more and possibly a few storms are expected. Some of the latest data shows another line of storms will move across some part of West Texas...though this may wind up south of our area. Low near 50.

TOMORROW: A chance for some more showers and storms, favoring the first half of the day. It'll be warmer than today but still well below average, high near 68.

WARMER DAYS: Upper-level ridging will move overhead by Friday. This will lead to a warmer and mostly sunny day, high near 80.

The ridge will move farther east with another storm system diving into the SW United States. This is a pretty typical May setup. A dry line will develop, which is the boundary that separates dry air west and humid air east. In the humid air storms can develop. We see a slight chance for storms late Saturday, a little bit better chance Sunday. The parameters for severe weather are trending a little higher Sunday. This far out we can simply say severe weather is possible. Unlike the past few days and this past weekend, the setup for this upcoming weekend is where the storms don't cover nearly as much of the area...but are much more intense.

7-day forecast

Rudy will have the next forecast update here later today. Have a great day.
