LISD District 1 race goes to tie-breaker election

Voters is Lubbock ISD District 1 will head to the polls again to choose a representative on the school board.

A recount after the May 7 election confirmed incumbent Mario Ybarra and challenger Lala Chavez tied at 747 votes.

Trustees will meet Friday morning to set June 7 as the date for a tie-breaker election.

The candidates had the option of agreeing to a coin toss or similar method of chance in order to avoid a second election.
