Look Around Lubbock: Day Break Coffee Roasters

Posted:

Day Break Coffee Roasters started in 1991 and roasts coffee imported from around the world. Day Break is the only coffee roastery in West Texas and is one of the largest in the state.

Founder, Scott Gloyna, takes semi-annual trips to South America to visit the coffee plantations that produce the coffee beans in some of the varieties roasted at Day Break. Gloyna said as the son of a cotton farmer, when he goes to the coffee plantations he asks the farmers the same things someone would ask his father. He looks at its operations, asks about the weather, how the plants are harvested, and meets the farmers that are growing the beans. Gloyna said the best part about being able to visit the coffee plantation is being able to put a name and a face to the coffee. He said Day Break's involved in roofing projects for schools in Columbia, along with projects to help buy books and uniforms for school kids in Costa Rica. Gloyna said anytime you can tie a product and the passion these farmers have for their coffee beans, he can take that back to customers and tell the farmer's story.

Day Break sells ground, whole, flavored and raw coffee beans. You can order it online through the Day Break Coffee website, at United Supermarkets under the Arriba! brand, at J&B coffee, or you can arrange to pick it up from the roastery.
