Tornado watch until 10PM

Another round of severe thunderstorms is possible tonight with a tornado watch in effect for Lubbock, Lynn, Hale, Briscoe, Cottle, Crosby, Dickens, Floyd, Garza, Hall, Kent, King, Motley, Stonewall, Borden and Scurry counties until 10pm. The counties under the watch are highlighted in blue below.

Storms will form along the dry line which is essentially located along the I-27/US-87 corridor. Similar to yesterday their movement will be off to the east. Also like yesterday, the main concern will be large hail, but strong wind gusts, heavy rain and even a few tornadoes will be possible. You can keep an eye on the storms with the radar live stream of our Vipir radar by clicking here or looking at the still image below. Click here for a look at the 24 hour rainfall totals from the West Texas Mesonet sites and click here for a breakdown of all the rainfall totals from the past 96 hours.

The storms will start to weaken as the sun sets and then will end overnight. Another round of severe thunderstorms will be possible tomorrow, although the chance will be held a little farther east, mainly across the Rolling Plains. You can see the area that is highlighted under the Storm Prediction Center’s “slight risk for severe weather” in the graphic below.

The storms will finally move to the east of us on Wednesday with sunny and windy conditions then expected the rest of the week. It will be warm over the next few days with temperatures topping out in the low to mid 90s, but then highs will stay in the 80s to end out the week. Our next chance for storms arrives at the beginning of next week.

Be sure to stay tuned into the weather with the potential for severe storms this evening. We will keep you updated as needed this evening on FOX 34 News Now and AM 950-100.7 FM and then I will have a full update on the News at Nine.  -Rudy
