TURKEY, Texas -

Monday night's tornado near Turkey, Texas has been preliminarily rated an EF-3, according to the National Weather Service.

The Hall County tornado developed around 9:45 and for 20 minutes moved slowly over open ranch and canyon lands to the southeast of Turkey.

Winds were estimated to be in the range of 135 to 140 mph. Several steel pylons supporting electrical lines were bent to the ground, according to the NWS.

In an email, Emergency Coordination Meteorologist Jody James wrote, "We could also see trees in the distance blown over, uprooted, but were unable to get closer due to flooded roads and a limited road network. Based on spotter reports, radar data, and limited survey data points, the map below represents our best estimate of the details of the this strong tornado."
