South Plains Food Bank kicks off 'Summer of Sharing'

Posted:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

The South Plains Food Bank is asking local businesses to join forces to help stock the shelves for the 7th Annual Summer of Sharing Food Drive.

One in eight people in the South Plains are food insecure. The SPFB servces more than 57,000 people annually.

The summer season traditionally has the lowest inventory, and the busiest time for the food bank.

Volunteers say you may take vacations, but hunger doesn't.

"This summer we're trying to raise 130,000 lbs of food and $30,000 and that will help us make sure that we have the food that we need to serve hungry families during the summer," said South Plains Food Bank CEO David Weaver.

The food drive kicks off Monday, May 30 and runs through June 30.

You can join in on the fun with the S.O.S. Fun Run Monday at Mackenzie Park. The entry fee is a non-perishable food item.
