Scattered storms, cooler the next few days

Another round of storms is expected tonight even though the storms have struggled to get going this afternoon. Overall the severe concern is low, but a few strong storms producing large hail and strong wind gusts can not be ruled out. You can keep an eye on all the storms with our Vipir radar live stream by clicking here or by looking at the still image below.

This will be the trend for the next couple of days as scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue off and on. The main concern will be flooding with some of the storms dumping quite a bit of rain, plus they will move fairly slowly meaning that the locations where storms form could see their rainfall totals add up quickly. Click here for a look at the 24 hour rainfall totals from the West Texas Mesonet sites and click here for a breakdown of all the rainfall totals from the past 96 hours. Below is a graphic produced by the Weather Prediction Center, a branch of NOAA, showing their rainfall forecast from tonight until Sunday night. It is showing that some of us could see over two inches of rain during this time frame with over six inches possible across a good chunk of Central Texas.

A cold front will move through tomorrow which added with all the clouds and rain will keep our temperatures in the 70s over the next few afternoons. High pressure will start to build in from the west at the end of the week which will help us clear out and warm us back into the 80s.

I hope you had a great day! I will step you through the forecast tonight on the News at Nine and Matt will have a complete updated forecast for you tomorrow morning. -Rudy
