LUBBOCK -
Several residents are dealing with the headache and harsh reality that their home or vehicle may be damaged from the flooding. Lubbock businesses are scrambling to soak up the water.
Employees at Carpet Tech have been at it non-stop since Wednesday's downpour. Lubbock manager Levi Bond said it is all hands on deck.
"Got about two-to-three hours of sleep, and back at it this morning (Thursday) as soon as we got up," he said.
Bond said his crew has seen a lot of windows leaking.
"A lot of doors leaking," he said. "Just slab leaks coming in from underneath. A few roof leaks at the mall."
Bond has been doing water restoration for quite some time. He said what is different this go-around is the amount of rain that came down.
"Whenever it rains hard, it only rains hard for 10, or 15 minutes," Bond said. "This one lasted for almost two hours. So, we haven't seen rain like this in a long time."
However, flooded homes are not the only thing that need some drying off. Rick's Tire Warehouse busy with service calls. Owner Donald Spoon said tires are the big issue.
"Seems like when it rains, stuff washes out into the street, and people run over those things then we have to repair them," he said.
Spoon said you should check your tires at least once a month.
"We also recommend regular maintenance," he said. "You know rotating them every 6 to 8,000 miles, things like that. Alignments also by making sure your car is mechanically sound."
Christian Brothers Automotive owner, Josh Page, said his employees have seen several flooded vehicles.
"Typically in this kind of weather when the water exceeds the depth of the tires, that water gets taken up through the engine, and does cause engine failure, that is kind of what we are seeing so far this week," he said.
If the water does get to the engine, the vehicle would be considered a total loss.
"If the customer goes to their insurance and kind of what they deem as a total loss, or not typically it is going to be from $5-to-15,000 depending upon the make and model of the vehicle," he said.
So, if your vehicle is flooded you will need to get an assessment and contact your insurance company. If you think you have water damage to your home the first thing, is to find the source to get it stopped.
