The Msaidia Historical and Cultural Arts Museum has been chosen to receive the Give Back Award from the Unified Juneteenth Commission.
The non-profit collection's photos, artifacts and documents are temporarily on display at the Museum of Texas Tech through July.
The museum's mission is to preserve and chronicle the legacy, contributions and influence of African-Americans and others throughout history.
Organizers are in the fundraising stage.
"The vision for the museum is to raise enough capital funding so that we can build at the old swimming pool lot in Mackenzie Park," said Executive Director Sheryl J. Hickman. "That is our goal."
