United Blood Services running low on blood

United Blood Services reports the center is running low on blood and the summer season is usually a time with low donations.

Brandon Baker with United Blood Services says the center uses around 130 pints of blood every single day.

"Lubbock is kind of a medical mecca of sorts," Baker said. "We have lots of big hospitals and cancer centers here and people come from all over West Texas and Eastern New Mexico for their procedures here. So we use a lot of blood."

For those traveling to a country with active Zika transmission, United Blood Services asks that you donate before you leave on your trip.

Otherwise, you would have to wait 28 days after you return to donate.
