Firecrackers: Local softball team raises funds at TNT

Posted:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Time to light up the sky! Local fireworks stands are now open for business until midnight July 4.

With the amount of rainfall in the area there are no restrictions for the county issued this year.

There are 30 TNT Fireworks locations in the South Plains area, including a super-center off the Slaton Highway.

It is operated by a local chapter girl's softball organization known -- ironically -- as the Firecrackers.

This is the traveling group's biggest fundraiser. The league has girls from 8 to 18. The 12-year-old age group is raising money for an upcoming trip to nationals in California.

"It is a good fundraiser for a good organization So, you know we have stuck with it, and you know we continue to do it because we know how it goes every year. It has gotten easier," Firecracker coach, Joseph Stewart.

For nationals, the group will be in Huntington Beach, California next month for about six days.

A few reminders: You can not pop fireworks in the city limits, pick-up your trash, and be mindful of residents who live out in the county.
