LUBBOCK -
The South Plains Food Bank is wrapping up its Summer of Sharing Food Drive.
The month-long food drive received $10,000 from West Texas Chevy Dealers and more than 2,600 food bags from Lowe's Supermarket. Every dollar donated is equivalent to three meals. The food bank plans to serve 57,000 people this year.
"There have been summers when we've literally run out of food, so this Summer of Sharing Food Drive is so important because it ensures we have the food that it takes to serve families that are struggling to get through the summer," said South Plains Food Bank CEO, David Weaver.
Summer of Sharing will end on Friday July 1, but the food bank always welcomes donations.
