The City Council District 2 seat has been in place for 37 years. In that time two people have held it. Now five candidates are running to replace Floyd Price, who isn't seeking re-election. Tiger Pratt, a political newcomer, said his 12 years of development experience sets him apart from the other four. He says the most pressing issue in Dist. 2 is economic development.
"The more economic development that we can get into District 2," Pratt said on the News Wednesday night, "and when I say that word, meaning housing, more home ownership, more businesses coming into District 2, that's more tax revenue that's going to be generated for the city, and that's a good thing."
He said with audits, budgets, and contractors, he'd be most effective at getting more development in that area. He said he's also a "vehement" defender of private property rights, and while he understands the city's annexation policies, he wants to encourage developers and investers to work in District 2.
"Let's look inside the city limits and find out which land developers can use," he said, "what projects fit the land that's within the city limits; then, if we have to go out, let's make sure we deal with those homeowners out in the county correctly, fairly, honestly, and [with] integrity, and try to get the deal done."
