Community members train for active shooter scenarios

Posted:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Community members received active shooter training Wednesday to prepare for those possible scenarios.

The workshop audience made up of local business people, teachers, hospital employees, and church members trying to learn how to stay safe and what they can do to help law enforcement responding to those calls.

"Not only if they're in charge of the building or at work," said LISD Police Chief Jody Scifres. "Obviously if they're out in the community shopping, at the mall, it's happened at malls. It gives them a little more awareness of steps they can take and prepare themselves."

Beyond safety strategies and action plans, the training included an ethics portion for responding after an active shooter scenario.

The workshop was organized by Communities in Schools.
