TxDOT moving forward with outer loop plans

Posted:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

TxDOT is moving forward with the outer route plans while they await new funds from he state.

Proposition 1 is already funneling some money from Texas' Rainy Day Fund into roads. Now, Proposition 7 -- voted in last year -- will divert money from state sales tax to roads, although the exact number of funds is not concrete.

"We're working off numbers in the range of $30 million a year from Proposition 7 and about $17.5 million from Proposition 1, so that's $35 million a year," Director of Transportation Planning and Development Steve Warren. "So what I've done is set up projects that are about $75 million each."

If funding stays constant, Warren said he expects to take one project per every other year. Should more money come into TxDOT's hands, Warren said it will take on one project per year.

A public hearing will be held May 11 at the Lubbock-Cooper Performing Arts Center.
