Monsanto reps talk sustainable agriculture with Tech students and staff

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Monsanto met with Texas Tech students and staff Wednesday to discuss sustainable agriculture.

The ag giant is investing more than $100 million to build a cotton seed production facility in the Hub City.

The company spoke about the challenges facing the agriculture world and the importance of innovation in bringing sustainable solutions to farmers.

"The food supply between now and 2050 -- just 34 years -- needs to double," said Monsanto Chief Tech Officer Rob Fraley. "And the only way I know how to do that, is to produce more food more effectively and reduce waste. And all of this science, and all of this technology on how we can grow better crops that produce better yields, that produce more food, how we can protect those crops from insects and disease which causes food waste, are only really important opportunities to address."

Monsanto representatives say it's key to collaborate with university faculties and students to continue to improve the agriculture industry.
