Sentencing delayed for hit-and-run defendant

The sentencing for a fatal hit-and-run defendant has been delayed.

Maria Isabel Martinez, 29, was in court for a punishment hearing Thursday.

She pleaded guilty in March to failure to stop and render aid with a death.

Matthew Valadez, 38, was jogging near 20th Street and Iola Avenue when he was struck by Martinez's SUV.

Valadez died at the scene.

District Judge William Eichman expected to make a sentencing decision for Martinez next week.
