LUBBOCK, Texas -

Police have identified the deceased female as 66-year-old Nella Clanton.
Update:
Police report grocery workers delivering food to the deceased woman's house had not heard from her in a couple of days. The workers reportedly called police when they found the back door was open.
Responding police found the woman and called EMS, who declared her deceased.
Police say the initial investigation found possible suspicious circumstances and "out of an abundance of caution," called homicide detectives.
The medical examiner is also en route, according to LPD.

An elderly woman has been found dead after police responded to a check welfare call Friday morning.
Police informed Lubbock ISD of the investigation in the 2400 block of 29th Street near Bean Elementary School. Police have told LISD that the school was in no danger and there was not a need for a lock down. Nancy Sharp says the elementary school doors are all locked during the school day as standard practice.
The woman has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.
