LUBBOCK, Texas -
Hundreds of students from around the South Plains took part in the statewide college signing day known as GenTxDay at the CIty Bank Auditorium Friday.
Students were recognized for their post-secondary plans.
The South Plains GenTx awarded 50 scholarships for $1,000 from a grant by the CH Foundation.
Texas Tech, South Plains College, West Texas A&M, Amarillo College, and Lubbock Christian all matched the scholarships.
"We recognized students today that are going into the military, to the police academy, and most importantly that are going on to two and four year institutions," said Janie Landin Ramirez with the South Plains Closing the Gaps P-20 Council. "We had a high, I would say, record number of students going to Texas Tech and South Plains College."
One student said "it is really awesome that they are here, and that we get to sign for colleges and show that we are going far."
Another said "I want to be a good role model for my little sister and brother, and I wanted to prove to my family that anything is possible, and that I can keep living my dreams."
