Mayor-elect says city debt weighed on voters' minds

Posted:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Mayor-elect Dan Pope says city taxes and debt were apparently on the minds of voters in City Council District 4, who voted by a wide margin for the challenger rather than the incumbent.

Steve Massengale will replace Jim Gerlt on the dais.

Pope points to one of the key issues where those candidates differed that indicates voters for Massengale had money on their mind.

"I do think that the Citizens Tower, and frankly a lot of the debt that's been issued without citizen's approval, I think that does play very well. and I'm with Steve on that one," Pope said.

Pope and Massengale will be sworn-in Tuesday, May 17.
