LUBBOCK, Texas -
TxDOT is reminding drivers of the consequences of not wearing a seat belt with a cracked windshield display as part of the "Click it or Ticket" campaign.
Beginning May 23, law enforcement will increase its efforts to ticket drivers and passengers for not wearing a seat belt.
"Too many crashes we show up to when there's minimal damage to the vehicle, yet the person did not survive, and why was that? They didn't have their seat belt on," said DPS Sgt. Bryan Witt. "And on the other hand, I've been to crashes where the vehicle was completely destroyed on the outside but the cab saved them because they were properly restrained, it kept them in that cab up against that seat like they're supposed and they survived that crash, it's amazing what those seat belts do to save your lives."
In Texas last year, there were more than 2,300 crashes involving unrestrained occupants resulting in nearly 1,000 deaths.
