LUBBOCK, Texas -
The family that owns Teddy Jack's Hub City Grill partnered with the Lubbock Lupus Foundation to support victims of that disease Saturday, and joined with patrons and supporters to release balloons and kick off the foundation's fundraising season.
It leads up to the "Walk to End Lupus Now" event in August, but for the restaurant's owners, it's a personal endeavor: their son was diagnosed with lupus more than two years ago, at the age of 35.
"It's heartbreaking, especially when it's your child," owner Curtis Jordan said. "You go 'Why not me?'"
Jordan said his son, Matt, made a strong recovery.
"He's in remission," he said, "He follows the diet that's prescribed for lupus patients, he exercises every day, so he's really done what the doctors have asked lupus victims to do, and it's had great results."
Teddy Jack's also announcing it will be donating a portion of all its revenue for the month of May to the Lone Star Chapter of the American Lupus Foundation. The ALF reports more than 1.5 million Americans suffer from the disease each year, for which there is no cure.
