Another round of storms overnight, cool and rainy Thursday

It was a cloudy, rainy and cool day in which we only warmed to around the average low this afternoon. Yes you read that right, the average low for today’s date is 57, and the average high is 84. We started off the morning in the upper 40s and only warmed into the upper 50s this afternoon. To go along with the cool conditions, we also saw a decent amount of rain, especially late last night going into early this morning. Click here for a look at the 24 hour rainfall totals from the West Texas Mesonet sites and click here for a breakdown of all the rainfall we have seen over the past 96 hours.

We will see a similar trend over the next 24 hours to what we have seen the past 24 hours. A few isolated light showers will continue this evening and then a more organized line of showers and thunderstorms will build up across eastern New Mexico and move to the east across the region overnight. Just like last night, storms will stay well below severe limits, but don’t be surprised if you get woken up by a few loud claps of thunder. You can keep an eye on all of the rain with our live streaming Vipir Radar by clicking here or looking at the still image below.

After the heavy rain exits tomorrow morning a few light showers and some patches of mist/drizzle will continue during the day. It looks like the clouds will thin out some in the afternoon allowing us to get warmer than we were today, but we should still be well below average, as we only top out in the upper 60s.

Sunshine will return on Friday with temperatures warming back into the 80s to end out the week. It will be sunny for most of Saturday, but we could see a few storms late. The much better chance for storms will come on Sunday as the dry line comes back into play. It is still looking like a setup for potentially strong to severe storms on Sunday, so you will want to stay weather aware this weekend.

I hope you enjoyed the rain today! I will step you through the forecast tonight on the News at Nine and Matt will have a complete updated forecast for you tomorrow morning. -Rudy
