Labor department's overtime rule could affect 30 percent of Tech

The recent ruling from the Department of Labor on overtime pay is not only affecting the business sector.

Texas Tech released the following statement on the new overtime rules:

"University officials have been exploring the potential effects of the new fair labor standards act regulations since January and will continue to do so. We anticipate this change will affect approximately 30 percent of the the university's full-time staff employees, or nearly 1,100, by making them eligible for overtime pay. At this time, we are uncertain of the exact financial cost to the university."
