We are wrapping up a more “typical” May day in which we saw near average temperatures both this morning and afternoon with mostly sunny conditions and a steady south breeze. We again could see some areas of fog develop overnight into tomorrow morning as we dip down into the upper 50s and lower 60s. Temperatures will warm into the mid to upper 80s tomorrow afternoon with a south wind around 10-20 mph.
It looks like storms will start to form across the western South Plains late tomorrow afternoon and then move to the east in the evening. While we do not expect widely scattered showers like we saw during the first half of the week, any storms that do form could quickly become severe with the main threats being large hail and strong wind gusts. Tomorrow just about everybody will have the chance for storms, but then on Sunday the chance shifts to the eastern half of the region, so essentially along and east of the I-27/US87 corridor. Again the main concerns will be large hail and strong wind gusts.
Our storm chances on Monday will be held across the Rolling Plains and then we should stay sunny the rest of next week. Temperatures will get a little warmer, as we top out in the upper 80s and lower 90s each afternoon.
Happy Friday! Be sure to stay tuned into the weather this weekend with the potential for severe storms. We will keep this weather blog updated on our latest thoughts. Have a great weekend. -Rudy
