UPDATE:

We continue to see showers and thunderstorms push south through the area. No storms are severe at this point (8:40 p.m.). The Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been trimmed somewhat, and now no longer includes our northern, northeastern and New Mexico counties.

Here's a look at some of our top rainfall totals and highest wind gusts:

The strong winds kicked up a lot of dust and dirt, causing a haboob to push through the area, including the city. Lubbock Airport recorded a wind gust of 58 mph as the haboob moved through. The National Weather Service office at the Science Spectrum in South Lubbock gusted to 45 mph.

Here was the view from our Tower Cam in South Lubbock at 7:23 p.m.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been extended to include our southern counties. For Lubbock and most of the South Plains, the watch is in effect until 10 p.m. For our southern counties, the watch is in effect until 11 p.m.

The entirety of the South Plains has been included in a "slight risk" of severe weather, according to the Storm Prediction Center. Our main threats this afternoon/evening will be large hail and strong winds. Isolated tornadoes will also be possible.
