Both city workers hurt in a wreck at 34th and Indiana are now recovering at home. The intersection is now closed. Work continues on a water pipeline. The intersection will stay closed until further notice. Traffic is being diverted through neighborhoods. It's best if you can avoid the intersection

posted Tuesday afternoon

Two City of Lubbock workers were injured after a wreck in the construction zone near 34th Street and Indiana Avenue.

Crews are working at the intersection to repair a water pipeline.

Police report a black southbound pickup turning east hit the rear corner of a gray northbound pickup, causing the gray pickup to slide into workers near a backhoe digging a hole. The collision caused one of the workers to fall inside the hole. The gray pickup came to a stop with two front wheels inside the hole.

One worker was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries. The other worker received minor injuries. No one in the vehicles was injured.

The crash remains under investigation.  LPD reports while on scene a separate crash occurred nearby.

Police urge motorists to avoid the intersection if possible while the pipeline repairs continue.
