Mark Ball, executive director of athletics for Lubbock ISD, announced his retirement in a letter to Superintendent Berhl Robertson, Jr., on Thursday, June 2. Joining Lubbock ISD in 2010, Ball has worked to elevate the profile of the LISD athletic program. Among his accomplishments are the creation of an LISD Hall of Honor to recognize former student athletes and the rejuvenation of the Texas Tech Chapter of the National Football Foundation, which has awarded more than $100,000 in college scholarships to student athletes.
Robertson said, "Coach Ball brought the Lubbock ISD athletic community together and created programs that will positively impact student athletes for years to come. We are better because of the experience Mark brought to Lubbock ISD and the care and concern he showed for student athletes. We wish him the best in his retirement."
Ball was inducted into the Wylie ISD Hall of Honor and was awarded the 2015 Chapter Leadership Award by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame. He was named the Region 1 Texas High School Athletic Directors Association (THSADA) Administrator of the Year for 2. Ball has been an active community volunteer and is also a member of several professional organizations including: the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association, Texas High School Coaches Association, Texas Girls Coaches Association, Association of Texas Professional Educators and the National Football Foundation.
Ball came to Lubbock ISD from Wylie ISD, where he was head football coach and athletic director. He also served as head football coach and athletic director in Lake Travis ISD, Whitesboro ISD and Graham ISD. From 2006 to 2015, he was a director and consultant for Glazier Coaching Clinics, working to provide quality professional development for football coaches. Ball won numerous coaching awards, including the UIL District Coach of the Year in 2001, 2002 and 2003; the Collin County Coach of the Year in 2002, and the U S Army Teamwork Award in 1992. Ball's teams have advanced to the state play-offs in multiple sports. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas Wesleyan University. He has been an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
