Morman church donates more than 12,000 pounds to food bank

The Church of Latter-day Saints helping those in need by donating more than 12,000 pounds of food to the South Plains Food Bank.

It's part of a food drive the Morman church started a number of years ago after the food bank ran out of food.

David Weaver, CEO of the food bank says the donation comes at a time when contributions usually slow and provides food that will help get them through the slow summer months.

"This is a great donation because it contains soups and canned meats and vegetables and the type of things that we really need for our food boxes as we go into the summer," Weaver said.

The food bank provides food to more than 50,000 people around the South Plains.
