LUBBOCK, Texas -
City Council District 2 candidate Jared B. Hall is calling for a police substation in his district.
He says south central Lubbock needs the extra law enforcement presence, particularly in the Bayless and Atkins neighborhoods.
"Temporary sub stations are an idea that work in many other cities," Hall said. "And especially storefront temporary sub stations that work. If we are going to move to build sub stations in the city of Lubbock, I think we should place them in neighborhoods where we're seeing people most affected by crimes."
In recent years, residents of the Bayless and Atkins neighborhoods have complained about increasing crime. According to RAID Online, a police incident report website, there were 8 residential burglaries, 14 thefts and 9 thefts from a motor vehicle reported since May 8, 2016.
Hall is facing Shelia Patterson Harris in the upcoming runoff election June 25.
