Chance for storms through the weekend

It was another breezy and warm day although we did have a few more clouds in the sky. Storms have built up across eastern New Mexico and are heading our way. Unlike the past few days, it looks like these storms will stay together and spread across the South Plains this evening, with some showers lasting into early tomorrow morning. You can keep an eye on the potential storms with the live stream of our Vipir radar by clicking here or by looking at the still image of the radar below.

It will be another warm day tomorrow, although we will have more clouds in the sky. Depending on how much rain we see tomorrow morning will determine our chances for rain tomorrow afternoon. Either way it looks like we will have at least a slight chance for more storms tomorrow afternoon and evening. We will have a better chance for storms on Saturday, with at least a slight chance for storms lasting through Monday. While we do not expect any widespread severe weather, a few of these storms could become severe, with the main concern being large hail and strong wind gusts. There will also be plenty of moisture to work with, so these storms will be capable of dumping quite a bit of rain. That being said, we do not expect a complete washout like we saw last week as these storms will still be scattered, meaning that many locations will likely completely miss out on the rain. It currently looks like our western counties will have the best chance for storms, and also the heaviest rain. Below is a graphic put together by the Weather Prediction Center, a branch of NOAA, which shows about 1.5 inches possible across some of our western counties through the weekend.

Temperatures will be a little cooler where there is rain, everybody else though should still warm into the upper 80s and lower 90s through the weekend. High pressure will build back in next week which will help clear us out and warm our temperatures into the upper 90s.

I hope you had a great day! I will step you through the forecast tonight on the News at Nine and Matt will have a complete updated forecast for you tomorrow morning. -Rudy
