Even though we had more clouds in the sky today temperatures still warmed to around or slightly above the average high this afternoon. There is the potential for a few showers and thunderstorms to form this afternoon, but coverage will likely be isolated. You can keep an eye on the potential storms with the live stream of our Vipir radar by clicking here or by looking at the still image of the radar below.
Last night we had more widely scattered storms, as a line moved from west to east across mainly the western half of the area before dissipation. You can check out the 24 hour rainfall totals from the West Texas Mesonet sites by clicking here and a get a breakdown of all the rainfall totals from the past 96 hours by clicking here. It still looks like we will have a slightly better chance for storms on Saturday, although coverage will remain isolated to widely scattered at best, meaning many locations will miss out on the rain. A few strong storms are possible, with large hail, strong wind gusts and heavy rain, but we do not expect widespread severe weather.
High pressure will start to build in at the beginning of next week, although we will still have a slight chance for a few isolated storms on both Sunday and Monday. Sunshine will then return for the rest of next week with temperatures warming into the upper 90s and 100s.
