Chance for storms on Wednesday, heat continues

9:45PM Update: The storms have all exited the region and we will stay storm free the rest of the night. There will be another chance for storms on Wednesday and it will be hot again. Get the detailed forecast in the original blog post below.

6:00PM Update: A tornado watch has been issued for Briscoe, Cottle, Crosby, Dickens, Floyd, Hall and Motley counties until 1 am. The main concern with any storms that form will be large hail, but some strong wind gusts and even an isolated tornado is possible. As of this writing only one storm has formed across the region with anything else struggling to get going. Get the Vipir radar and the rest of the detailed forecast in the original blog post below.

We are wrapping up the warmest day day of the year so far with temperatures in the upper 90s and 100s this afternoon. Once again we have a slight chance for a few showers and thunderstorms, this time mainly across our eastern most counties. You can keep an eye on the potential storms with the live stream of our Vipir radar by clicking here or by looking at the still image of the radar below.

Any storms that do form could become severe, producing large hail and strong wind gusts along with heavy rain. Most if not all of the storms will be to the east of all of us though, out across the Big Country. We will have a better chance for storms tomorrow. Storms will form across southeastern New Mexico and the Permian Basin and then move to the northeast. That means our southern, and especially southwestern counties will have the best chance for storms. Storms will likely not enter the South Plains until late in the afternoon and evening and then dissipate as the sun sets.

A few spotty storms could form again on Thursday, although by then high pressure will really start to take its grip on the region which will decrease any storm development. The sunny and hot conditions will then continue through the weekend and through at least the first half of next week. Temperatures will warm to around 100 each afternoon.

I hope you had a great day! I will step you through the forecast tonight on the News at Nine and Matt will have a complete updated forecast for you tomorrow morning.  -Rudy
